Position Summary:
The Pallet Manager is responsible for overseeing the efficient and effective management of pallet operations across one or more facilities. This role includes managing inventory, coordinating with vendors, implementing cost-saving strategies, and ensuring the timely availability of pallets to support operational needs. The Pallet Manager will also supervise team members, monitor quality and safety standards, and drive continuous improvement in pallet handling and logistics.
Responsibilities:
The most important aspect of this role is hands-on experience in the manufacturing and distribution of new and rebuilt pallets.
Inventory Management:
- Track, maintain, and optimize pallet inventory to meet the organization’s needs across multiple sites.
- Forecast pallet requirements based on demand planning and coordinate with vendors to ensure consistent supply.
- Implement systems to monitor inventory levels, minimizing shortages and excess stock.
Vendor Coordination & Cost Management:
- Build and maintain relationships with pallet suppliers and negotiate pricing to reduce costs.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities in pallet sourcing, repair, and maintenance.
- Ensure quality standards are met by coordinating with vendors on repairs or replacement pallets as needed.
Operational Oversight:
- Supervise pallet sorting, repair, and distribution activities to ensure timely availability.
- Develop and implement best practices in pallet handling to increase efficiency and minimize damages.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Continuous Improvement:
- Analyze pallet usage patterns and operational efficiencies to identify areas for process improvement.
- Lead initiatives to improve inventory accuracy, tracking, and reporting.
- Stay informed about industry trends and innovations in pallet management to drive operational excellence.
Team Supervision:
- Supervise and provide guidance to a team of pallet handlers or operators.
- Develop and conduct training for team members on proper pallet handling, safety practices, and operational procedures.
- Monitor team performance and ensure adherence to company policies and standards.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, or related field preferred.
Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in pallet management or related pallet experience, inventory control.
- Prior experience in a supervisory role is a plus.
Skills:
- Proficiency in inventory management systems and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills for vendor management.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in varying conditions (temperature, noise).
- Willingness to be on-site frequently and travel to different locations if required.
